How Big is Archway RV Park

The RV park isn’t very big, but there is more than enough room to create your home away from home atmosphere aboard all sized rigs. Archway US RV Park is run and owned by family and they treat all of their guests as family. Not only does Archway RV way have 49 gravel spaces available, but there is space for on-site cabin rentals, tents, and glamping pods. Mt Vernon is a part of Jefferson county, which has a warm, small town feel.  It is conveniently located right next to the junction of two major interstate highways, with services close by. The city of Mount Vernon is  77 miles West of Evansville, Indiana and 77 miles East of St. Louis, Missouri.

Archway RV Park Weather

The location of Archway RV Park will require planning based on desired weather conditions. Depending if you are just passing through or staying a longer period of time, the milder temperature months will provide the best stay. The summers are typically hot and humid, starting at the end of May and going through mid-September. The average temperature during these months is around 80 degrees. The hottest month of the year is July. The colder months are November through February, with an average temperature of 50 degrees.  The coldest month is January. During this month, you will find the area experiencing the most snowfall.

When Was Archway RV Park Established?

There is not much history regarding the establishment of the RV park, but there are some interesting facts about the city of Mt. Vernon. Zadok Casey founded Mount Vernon in 1817. The name was based on George Washington’s plantation of the same name in Northern Virginia. In 1848, after the shift of the Illinois Supreme Court, well known lawyers who played a major role in the system, like Abraham Lincoln, came to Mount Vernon to argue their cases.

Things to do at Archway RV Park

Archway RV Park itself provides the basic amenities and outdoor lounging and play areas for the family to relax and unwind. Most of the things to do are in the surrounding outdoor areas and throughout the town. You can expect to get a fix of some history on the area and its buildings and a taste of the outdoors. Cedarhurst

Mount Vernon is known as the “Festival Arts City.” The Cedarhurst Center of the Arts is a visual and performing arts institution in Mount Vernon, Illinois. It sits on a 90-acre campus. The center offers educational courses in art, painting, drawing, and an array of community events. It is also home to the Mitchell Museum, Kuenze Sculpture Park, and the Performance Hall.

Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area

A 3,300-acre state park bordering Rend Lake near Benton, Illinois. The park hosts several shoreline recreation activities, including boating, fishing, and picnicking. Rend Lake is known for its great fishing, where you can expect to catch largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and crappie.

Aquatic Zoo

A place for the whole family to spend the day and have some fun. There are waterslides, tubing, a lazy river, and even a high dive to experience. Kids will enjoy the challenge of a dynamic, water playground. The water park is all animal themed, which adds to the fun experience.

Jefferson County Historical Society

Learning about the history of a new place you are visiting can be so fascinating. The museum has an interpretative center that delves into the history of the county and town. The 19th century log houses, jail, and school will spark the imagination of what it was like to live during these times.

Appellate Court

A neat historical site that was Constructed in 1857 as the southern division of the Illinois State Supreme Court. It is nationally recognized as the place Abraham Lincoln successfully argued a famous tax case in 1859.

Green Hills Golf Club

The golf club was built in 1920 and remains a unique golfing experience for all ability levels. The abundance of trees and natural creeks makes it a refreshing course to spend the day. There are over 6,700 yards that are known for having the best surfaces in the region.

Devil’s Prop Hike

An 8 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail that is located near Archway RV Park. The trail is welcome to all skill levels and is a wonderful place to soak in nature and view the local wildlife. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed.

Rend Lake Fish & Wildlife

A 38,900 acres in Franklin and Jefferson Counties, United States created for fishing, hunting (during season), hiking, picnicking, and more. The lake itself is 13 miles-long and 3 miles wide.  Rend Lake is well-known for the vast variety of catchable fish. Expect to find massive catfish, sunfish, buffalo, bowfin, and carp.

Nu Bowl Lanes

If the family is looking for some indoor fun, Nu Bowl Lanes is a great place to spend a few hours. There are 28 bowling lanes, snacks, and refreshments to enjoy.

Hall of Honor & Military Museum

The “Hall of Honor” is a tribute to local veterans, located in a hallway of the main terminal building of the airport. The hallway is a gesture of respect and honor to the veterans. The museum is entirely run and maintained by volunteers. The hall has over 500 tributes to local and regional veterans.

When to go to Archway RV Park

The best time of year to visit Archway RV Park for warm-weather activities is from late May to late September. Come late November, be prepared for the colder weather and snowier conditions to set in. During the summer months, there are several community events and gatherings that will give you a taste of the small county of Jefferson. With COVID-19 still making an impact, make sure to keep track of the current conditions and potential closures during these times.

Must-Have Things to Bring to Archway RV Park

It’s also nice to know that no matter the situation, you are prepared for all scenarios and potential mishaps. Although Archway RV Park offers the basic amenities and has plenty of surrounding service options, it is best to come fully equipped.

Water

List of Parks highly suggest to have plenty of water. Bring a couple of extra jugs than you normally would just to be safe. More is always better. 

Food/Snacks

Preparing for travel calls for proper food and snack packing. Trail mixes, bars, and other easy packing snacks are great options. 

Kitchen Utensils

Bring everything you will use daily to cook at home if you decide not to use the food options within walking distance of the RV site. (Ex. Cups, mugs, plates, bowls, forks, spoons, paper towels, wipes, knives. etc.)

Being sure you know how to navigate throughout the surrounding areas. Another precaution to ensure your safety and enjoyment. 

Tool Kit

Things happen and it is best to be prepared with all the tool necessities. Bring Allen or hex wrenches. Bring duct tape. Bring scissors. Bring rubber bands and zip ties. Bring plenty of towels you can use as noise buffers. Prepare and anticipate. 

Proper Attire

Pack for the time of year you will be visiting but come prepared with waterproof gear too. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and proper clothing for cooler night temperatures. A backpack meant for hiking will be a great idea if you plan on spending the full day on your feet. 

Binoculars

With all the wildlife and vast landscapes to view, getting a zoom-in view can always enhance the experience.

Flashlight, Headlamps, Lantern.

Extra Fuel/Oils

Bringing a tank of gas and extra motor oil and transmission fluid will ensure that in case of an emergency, you will be set to get to the next best location.

Toiletries

Bringing your toilet paper and everything to make you comfortable using the RV toilet for your trip. This is important.

Archway RV Park Site Details

The RV site provides 42 easy in and out pull through spots perfectly suited for your rig. 37 of those spots are full hookups. Each site is equipped with 30-50 Amps. The park is kid and dog friendly with a big play area on site. Walmart is conveniently located for all shopping needs. There is also a handful of other local restaurants and shops within walking distance from the RV park. There is a rec hall, laundry, and pavilion to hangout in and relax when you are not out and about. A dumping station and a propane fill station are available for those who need. There is free Wi-Fi at the Welcome Center.

Food Nearby Archway RV Park

There is a Kroger’s and Walmart located about a mile away from Archway RV Park for all basic shopping and grocery needs. The Asian Buffet in Mount Vernon is known for its outstanding Chinese cuisine. Another great local favorite is the RARE Chop House that serves a variety of entrees that customers love.

There are few airport options near Archway RV park. The closest major airport is Williamson County Regional Airport. The closest international airport is St. Louis Lambert International Airport at about 85 miles away and Louis Lambert International Airport at about 2 miles away.
